VOC, MVOC &
FORMALDEHYDE TESTING

This service is most commonly used for new builds or recent renovations. It is also a popular test for people who have concerns about a new piece of furniture such as a couch or mattress which may be off-gassing and causing occupants to experience symptoms such as headaches; dizziness; nausea; irritated eyes, nose, throat; nervous system effects; rashes or just feeling generally unwell.

Formaldehyde is highly volatile and gaseous at room temperature, and it is released into the air through off-gassing from various products inside the home. High humidity and temperatures can accelerate this process, leading to increased formaldehyde levels in indoor spaces. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are gases emitted from various solids or liquids and can include a range of chemicals, some of which may have negative health effects in both the short and long term. VOC levels are often very high in new builds or renovations. VOCs can be found in a multitude of household products that we use daily.

The presence of Mould Volatile Organic Compounds (MVOCs) in indoor spaces can serve as an indicator of active mould growth. Prolonged exposure to these MVOCs can have severe health effects, especially on vulnerable groups.

  • FORMALDEHYDE: A small pump is placed in an appropriate location of the home or office to draw air over the filter media and into a collection tube. This test takes approximately 20 mins.

  • VOCs & MVOCs: A small pump is placed in an appropriate location of the home or office to draw air over the filter media and into a collection tube. This test takes approximately 2 hours. The sample is collected and sent to a certified lab to be analysed. A thorough report is provided stating the various VOCs that were detected and the levels of those VOCs. If active mould is growing this is detected in the sampling. Note: for thorough mould testing and identification to genera see Mould Audit
